A new financial year has brought a few changes for Australian visas. Some will cost you more, while others could work in your favour. Here's a rundown of what changed and how Australian Portal Immigration can help you.

Â
Visa Fees Went Up (25%)
From 1 July 2026, most Australian visa application charges rose by around 25%. If you're planning to apply for a visa, it's important to understand the updated government charges before lodging your application.
Some examples of the new standard base application charges include:
Visa | Previous Base Charge | From 1 July 2026 |
Working Holiday Visa | $670 | $840 |
Student Visa (Subclass 500) | $2,000 | $2,500 |
Skills in Demand Visa (Subclass 482) | $3,210 | $4,015 |
Employer Nomination Scheme (Subclass 186) | $4,910 | $6,140 |
Skilled Independent Visa (Subclass 189) | $4,910 | $6,135 |
Partner Visa | $9,365 | $11,710 |
These are standard base application charges and may not represent the total cost of your application. Before you commit, we confirm the exact cost for your case no surprises.
Sponsored Workers: New Minimum Salary
Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold (TSMIT), which is the minimum salary for sponsored skilled workers, rose to $79,423Â this 1 July 2026 and is now indexed each year.
If you're applying for an employer-sponsored skilled visa, your job offer needs to meet the updated minimum salary requirement. Both employers and skilled workers should consider this threshold when preparing a sponsorship application.

Over 45? Employer-Sponsored PR (Subclass 186)
Being over 45 does NOT always mean permanent residence is out of reach. From 1 July 2026, the income threshold for the age exemption under the Employer Nomination Scheme (Subclass 186) rose to $190,100. If you're earning above this in an eligible role, the under-45 age limit may not apply so permanent residence could still be within reach.
If Your Visa Was Refused
A refusal isn't the end of the road. Reviews are still an option, although the Tribunal fee rose to $3,727Â from 1 July 2026. Review applications are strict and time-limited, so getting expert help early can make all the difference in understanding your available options and the next steps.
